Are You Happy?
Okay, so this is a little off topic, but actually has a lot to do with anyone in any life. So, I’m focussing on the “Life” aspect of Life in the Theatre with this… I just received an anonymous email – you know the kind: essentially junk mail that accidentally arrives in your normal inbox.
Anyway, I clicked it open because I was intrigued by its title. I expected that it was going to be some hard sell for some item or other, but instead what I found was a lovely message that made me think and smile. Unusual huh?!? So, I though I’d share it with you. It makes a lot of sense, and if it does nothing other than make you stop, pause and think about your own position in life right now then I hope it does.
Sadly I can’t tell you who the original author was as the email came through with no header nor addressee other than a random selection of numbers. If any of you know who the original author is, please let me know so I can attribute them fully.
Are You Happy With Your Life? – the email
Very few people know this, but for a long time, I lived a pretty unhappy life. Although, things were going pretty well in my business and life, I was depressed most of the time.
And I did not really know why.
I was blaming the weather, the government and other external circumstances until one day I realized that happiness should come from within.
By then, I knew: Nothing is going to make me happy, BUT ME.
Everyone strives to be happy but the actual mistake that most of us make is that we think that happiness is some kind of finishing line in a race. Once we crossed that line, we will live happily ever after.
This is unfortunately not true. Happiness is a choice! And happiness is a process!
We can choose to make our life happy. So here are a few ways you can try to make every single day of your life happier.
1. Let Go Of Past Memories.
Everyone has sad and happy moments too. Forget your painful memories. What’s in the past stays in the past. Instead focus on your good memories and move on.
2. Be Optimistic
Always try looking on the bright side of things. Look for the silver lining behind each dark cloud. For example, if you had an unfortunate accident and your car was badly dented, but the bright side is that nobody got hurt and that dent in your car can be repaired. There is always a bright side to look on so be optimistic!
3. Be Close To Your Family
Try and maintain a close relationship with your family and friends. Our relationships with them have a greater impact on our happiness than anything else. Human beings are made to be social creatures. So cherish the existing relationships that you have.
4. Find Your Dream Job
If you are feeling stressed out in your current job and not getting the job satisfaction that you really want, perhaps it’s time for a career change. Job satisfaction plays an important role in your happiness. So give your job a chance. Always have a positive attitude at work. If that doesn’t work, then let it go and find a new one.
5. Make Lifetime Friends
You need to make friends with people who share a common interest with you. Find something that you are deeply passionate about. It could be a hobby or an organization you can volunteer in. You will meet people who the share the same interest and passion as you.
6. Take Care of Your Body
And your body will take care of you. Exercising releases endorphins. So, not only you are taking care of your body but you will automatically start to feel good about yourself.
7. Change Your Mindset, Live In The Now
You have to start living life to the fullest. Don’t delay your life a second longer. Live in the now, stop dealing with the past and don’t dwell on future too much either. Try something new everyday or pick up a new skill.
8. Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
Remember all the small petty stuff that used to bother you? Forget all about it and focus on the bigger picture. Life is too short to worry about trivial stuff.
9. Live Your Own Life
Stop trying to live your life up to other people’s expectations. Be and embrace yourself. You are an individual character. Accept who you are and be proud of it.
10. Love From The Heart
Lastly, remember to love with all your heart. You have all this love to give so give your love to your loved ones, to your job, to your passion and start feeling happy today! For a happier life!
