Find Me is a full ensemble production based on a true story of a girl (Verity) who spiralled through the UK mental health services during the 1960s and 70s, and whose simple note was discovered with the words “Dear whoever you are, find me and have me as your beloved”…
All cast members played a variety of roles in telling Verity’s story. Set in a traverse stage, and using very limited props and denoting costume – the storytelling was entirely through characterisation and effective embodiment of each aspect of the story.
It is over 40 years since this story was originally told. The play questioned the inadequacy of mental health services back then. The river of mental health crises has kept growing since. And it is only in the last 3 years that a proper focus has been given to this aspect of health and social care. The relevance of this play is incredibly strong, even today.
