My actor training did, however, advance my abilities in dissecting a dramatic text and constructing a directorial vision for the production ahead. I became fluent in a wide range of theatrical genres and sub-textual understanding, and became familiar with dramatic styles and conventions.
My planning for rehearsal and thorough comprehension of the script (and its potential) allows me to really engage a cast and design/technical theatre team with my vision. In this way, I am able to produce a full theatrical experience (whether contemporary theatre, classical theatre, musical or otherwise) in efficient time and with outstanding quality. I enjoy challenging and stretching myself and my team to explore the limitations of our collective creativity.

I have worked in commercial and community theatre as director, as well as a strong directing for education portfolio – having led education productions in FE and HE institutions. I have also gained a solid grounding in directing Theatre in Education productions to great effect.
I am currently in the process of setting up a theatre company of my own, for which I will be Artistic Director. The intention of this company is to revive and reawaken old texts, apply a fresh lick of paint to existing contemporary texts and be invigorated by new writing – I am sure there will be many other opportunities along the way.
